About Me

I'M Ronald Andrews

(I go by Ron.) I have 61 years of experience as a photographer (I started as a kid). Both my father and my maternal grandfather were avid photographers. I enjoyed watching my grandfather open a box of Kodachrome slides and sort through them. I still have 2000 of those slides.

I was interested in the technology of photography in addition to the artistry so I pursued a career at Eastman Kodak. In the 1980s I was the formulation engineer for Kodachrome products. In the 1990s and early 2000s I desigend new color negative films. I also had a chance to meet many of the top photographers in the country.

Analog photography hit the skids in the 2000s and Kodak said it was time for me to go. Our sons were leaving home so I bought a DSLR and had more plenty of time to practice. I've learned far more about creating images in the past 15 years than in the prior 45 years.

I started submitting panoramas to the local newspaper for publication. I entered a few juried shows with some success.

Inspiration

I enjoy landscapes, especially waterfalls. This country is full of beautiful vistas in every state. Even ordinary flat land becomes extraordinary with a spectacular sunset or impressive starscape.

Techniques

I still pull out my grandfather's 4x5 Crown Graphic for family reunions, but my workhorse is a Nikon DSLR. Image editing is the one tool that I use constantly that my grandfather never had.
